Ssuk (wormwood) Islet was named so as the plant grows well there. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un proposed building on the islet a sci-tech complex conducive to making all the people well-versed in science and technology.
He initiated building on the islet a hub to disseminate science and technology among the people across the country and proposed naming it Sci-Tech Complex , energetically leading the construction project to completion.
On October 27, 2015, he visited the complex which boasts a distinctive architectural style of the atomic structure as a symbol of the world of science. That day he said that the complex is a Korean-style edifice both in design and construction and a monumental structure embodying the Workers’ Party of Korea’s Juche-oriented idea on architectural aesthetics, adding that Ssuk Islet, which had been so called for plenty of wormwood, has now been transformed into an islet of science and learning.
On January 1, 2016, he attended the inauguration ceremony of the complex to cut the tape for the event. In his report to the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in May that year, he said that a nationwide dissemination network should be established centring on the Sci-Tech Complex, a great temple of learning for all the people and a multifunctional hub of scientific and technological dissemination, so that new scientific and technological information flows from the centre to the lowest level.
Since the inauguration of the Sci-Tech Complex, many scientists, technicians and working people have visited it in quest of scientific and technological knowledge and, in the course of this, achieved significant inventions and hits of national value.
All institutions, industrial establishments and farms all over the country are tackling technical tasks facing their respective sectors and units while improving the scientific and technological level of their employees through their sci-tech learning space connected with the complex via network.
The complex plays host to seminars, presentations, festivals and exhibitions every year to widely disseminate advanced science and technology through such events.
