Delegatesof the Korean Children’s Union arrived in Pyongyang one December day in 2022 toattend the Ninth Congress of the KCU amid the blessing of all the people acrossthe DPRK.
Citizensof the capital city extended warm congratulations to the happy and vigorous childrenentering it, wearing new school uniforms, padded clothes and shoes and carryingnew satchels.
However,they could hardly know that the children’s attire and bags were associated withwarm love.
OneJuly day several months before the congress,
therespected General Secretary Kim Jong Un acquainted himself with thepreparations for the congress. Then he told officials that school uniforms,bags, shoes and socks should be made especially well for the delegates to thecongress, and stressed the need to dress the children well, citing the saying, “Finefeathers make fine birds”.
Healso cared much about the issues of taking each student’s measurements to providethem with tailored school uniforms before they left for Pyongyang, givingmargins to the edges of sleeves and trousers and skirts to be extended later inconsideration of their rapid growth and providing them with made-to-measureshoes.
Boundlesswas his love for the children as he wanted to give them more and more things.
OneSeptember day of that year, he called a senior official of the Party CentralCommittee to stress the need to produce duck feather-padded clothes and wintershoes for the delegates as the KCU congress was slated to be held in winter. Wehad already taken measures to make new school uniforms well for the delegates,he said, adding that the children would really look nice if they wore finewinter clothes as well.
This ishow the KCU delegates came to Pyongyang lively and imposingly, wearing newschool uniforms, padded clothes and shoes and shouldering new satchels.
