The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un shows boundless affection to the service personnel regarding them as his own beloved sons and daughters.
In August 2012 he inspected an island-defending unit deployed in the hottest spot on the southwestern front.
Despite officials’ dissuasion from inspection due to the rough sea route to the unit, he chose to brave the heavy seas aboard a 27hp wooden boat, saying he should go to where the service personnel are, however dangerous the journey is, and there is the Supreme Commander as there are servicemen.
That day, looking round the defending unit, he stressed the need to ensure that service personnel do not miss the living on the land and to pay close attention to getting them to always lead an optimistic and militant service life with no feeling of loneliness.
He took a measure to solve the water shortage for the unit and instructed on addressing the needs for electric power for living purposes by exploiting wind power, solar energy and methane.
Afterwards, he revisited the unit and took care of the living of the service personnel with parental affection while making the rounds of the barracks, mess hall, wash-cum-bath room, greenhouse, animal shed and other places.
In mid-October 2013 he received a report that seamen of the Korean People’s Army Navy lost their lives while executing a mission and saw that their bodies were all recovered and buried and a grand funeral ceremony was held in memory of them.
Not content with this, he visited the tomb of the martyrs and laid a flower before it paying homage to the dead. Looking round every gravestone, he hardly restrained his broken heart as he said that the photographic images of the martyrs carved on the stone were made well and that he felt as if they seemed to get back and pleased to see him.
After looking around all the gravestones for a long time, he earnestly said that every gravestone should be inscribed with the name of the grave owner and he would become the owner of their graves.
