February 16 witnessed a splendid inauguration ceremony of 10 000 flats at the fourth stage in the Hwasong area in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK. The construction of the 10 000 flats meant the wonderful conclusion of the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang, which had powerfully been carried on as the top-priority task of the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Visitors to the Hwasong area are surprised to find that it has changed beyond recognition with new modern streets.

Hwasong Street (as the first stage) completed in 2023 is nearly three times the area of Songhwa Street built the previous year. The grand architectural group boasts twin buildings symbolic of the street and Korean-style buildings combined with modernity and national identity.

Rimhung Street (as the second stage) was completed in 2024 by adopting the land-saving approach of urban formation. In the area whose size is nearly half of that of the first stage there are super-high-rise and high-rise buildings in close arrangement. The buildings in the street are in striking contrast in colour to enhance their dignity and elegance. The service facilities arranged in the lower part of every building are interlinked to produce a three-dimensional effect.

The layout of the third-stage quarter, unlike the first- and second-stage ones, is characterized by an ideal combination of super-high-rise and high-rise buildings, educational, healthcare, commercial and catering, technical and amusement facilities and other modern service networks.

At the inauguration ceremony of the 10 000 flats at the fourth stage in the Hwasong area, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that the successes achieved so far are really great and precious, but they are just the beginning in light of our dreams and capabilities. And he expressed his firm will to perfect the Hwasong area as a model district equipped with all the political, economic and cultural components and turn the whole area of the capital city into the one embodying the features of the new era.

All these new streets and residential quarters have turned the Hwasong area into a new urban district.

As he gave field guidance over the fourth-stage construction project in the Hwasong area nearing completion in January, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un expressed satisfaction over the correct implementation of the Party's decision on building the Hwasong area as a functional prototype of administrative district, saying that if the construction plan for 2026 is carried out, the Hwasong area will be the most developed area in the capital city which perfectly embodies the political, economic and cultural functions as an urban administrative district.

Now the area resounds with the laughter and songs of happiness of the people who have moved into the new flats.
