The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex is directing efforts to perfect the iron and steel-making techniques by introducing technical innovations.
The complex renovated the ceiling of oxygen-blast furnace which makes no use of coke and introduced over ten rationalization plans such as the method of coating the furnace bed by making use of carbonaceous materials, thus increasing the output of pig iron.
It introduced a desulphurization method by means of dolomite into oxygen converter to reduce sulfur content in molten iron by 0.001%, thus improving the quality of steel.
It also introduced a Korean-style water injection device for surface heat-treatment into the production line of heavy rails to improve their quality.
“We will not be content with the successes we have already achieved. We will promote the work to normalize production of iron and steel in reliance on our own techniques, fuel and raw materials and further enhance the Juche orientation of iron-making industry,” said Kim Jung Son, vice-chief engineer.
