The Pyongyang Intellectual Property Centre in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is working briskly to deal with applications for patents, trademarks and other forms of intellectual property.
Director Rim Yong Man said that the centre established in March Juche 71 (1982) helps to apply, register and protect at home and abroad the local rights to intellectual property, particularly patents and trademarks, by studying the conventions and treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization and laws and regulations of different countries.
In addition, it helps to settle disputes over intellectual property rights and provides consultative and advisory services to this end.
Up to now it has been authorized to submit many applications for rights to patents and trademarks from clients at home and abroad to the Intellectual Property Office of the DPRK, WIPO and other IP administrative bodies in foreign countries, making most of them registered in the DPRK and over 60 countries around the world.
Over the years it has submitted “Composition of mineral external preparation for healing refractory wound and its making method,” “Inclined fire-tube boiler,” “Boiler comprising radiation shield structure” and other inventions for PCT applications and registered them as patents in China, Russia and other countries. And it has also registered the trademark “Okryugwan” in China, Russia, Indonesia, Cambodia and other countries.
As the applications for patents and trademarks are on the increase, the centre works to build up its capacity and raise public awareness of rights of patents and trademarks.
