A mass rally took place in the capital city of Pyongyang to celebrate the inauguration of the government on September 12, 1948, a few days after the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Crowds got together at the venue with the joy and delight of having built a republic, a genuine country, on their own hands for the first time in history, and there was a general air of festivity in streets.
When Premier Kim Il Sung arrived at the venue and mounted the platform, a girl presented a bouquet of flowers reflecting the boundless gratitude and reverence of all the Korean people for him who founded the DPRK which would shine in the nation’s 5 000-year history.
At the event he delivered a historic speech entitled Let Us All Unite Firmly around the Government of the Republic and March forward To Build a Democratic Korea. Noting that the establishment of the DPRK government opened a brilliant new page in the struggle of Korean people for building an independent and sovereign state, he said the founding of the DPRK and the establishment of the central government are a fruition of the united struggle and the great historic victory of the Korean people.
He affirmed that the DPRK government would make every possible effort to ensure the prosperity of the country and the future of the nation, and referred to the tasks facing the government and the people.
And he declared in a resonant voice:
“Let us march forward towards the triumphant construction of a democratic Korea, rallying firmly around the government of the Republic.
“Long live the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea!
“Long live the Korean people!”
When he finished his speech, thunderous cheers went up.
The cheers were a solemn toll that heralded a new chapter in the Korean people’s struggle for carving out their destiny and an expression of their firm faith and will to build a prosperous, independent and sovereign state, united around the Premier.
