Now the US is busy “mediating” the tense situation in the Middle East.
Recently, a special envoy of the US President has visited Lebanon. During his visit he said that as nobody wants a full-scale war to break out between Israel and Hezbollah (a Lebanese patriotic organization), the dispute should be diplomatically settled, adding that the proposed package deal for ceasefire in Gaza would contribute to preventing the escalation of the fighting. In the meantime, the US came out with a “proposal for détente” between Hamas and Israel, portraying it as a means for immediately resolving the Middle East crisis.
The question is that prior to the visit the US Department of State made public its decision to give a staggering amount of arms assistance to Israel. The arms sale package to the tune of over 20 billion dollars contains fighters and other armaments plus tank shells worth 774 million dollars and military vehicles worth 583 million dollars. The tank shells are reportedly ready to be delivered immediately. Earlier, the US bankrolled Israel’s war effort to the tune of 3.5 billion dollars so that the latter could purchase the former’s weapons and equipment.
Self-evidently, the vast amount of military hardware will be used to fight against Hamas. Most of the weapons used by Israel to kill innocent, peaceful Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the Middle East crisis were supplied by the US. Meanwhile, the US is conniving with and egging on Israel to annihilate the Gaza Strip, accounting for the latter’s “right to self-defence.”
Over the last few months alone the US handed a large amount of military hardware over to Israel while putting a series of brakes on the efforts of the UN Security Council for immediate ceasefire. To conclude, the US is insisting on “ceasefire” and “peace” in a bid to cover up its true intention to deceive the world public and hold sway over the Middle East.
The answer to why peace has not yet settled on the Middle East has long ago been given.
