Ro Phyong Mi, a doctor of moxibustion department of the Koryo Medicine General Hospital, is recognized as one of the most competent doctors in the hospital.
She found interest in the traditional Koryo medicine while studying at Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences. After graduation, she worked at the university’s hospital, but she continued with the efforts to improve her abilities.
In the course of this, she was convinced that any disease can be managed if the Koryo therapy is properly applied, and devoted her heart and soul into the study.
On the basis of the identification of blood spots for different diseases, she sometimes tried her body with needles to verify their effectiveness and burnt the midnight oil trying to determine the required amount and timing of moxa.
Meanwhile, she strove hard to develop new Koryo medicines. Her decades-long painstaking efforts bore fruit. She developed efficacious methods and Koryo medicines for treating digestive troubles, paraplegia, rheumatoid arthritis and various other kinds of diseases. In particular, the rheumatoid arthritis treatment combined with the moxa stimulation and use of Aconitum karafutense arthritis tablets has attracted particular attention of the academic circles.
She applied her new treatment method to clinical practice. Many people benefitted from it. One of them is Ri Ok Chol from Kangso District, Nampho Municipality. He had got injured by an accident to be paraplegic. She also brought joy to many people who had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis.
