An emergency case was rushed to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital in September.
The patient was Ri Yong Hui, a farmer in Pongdo-ri, Taesong District.
The patient was in critical condition with HELLP syndrome complicated by puerperal sepsis and disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome (DIC).
Medically, patients with HELLP syndrome and DIC syndrome are known to be very difficult to resuscitate because bleeding does not stop.
O Yong Sop, a doctor of the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, took emergency measures without delay and held repeated consultations with Kil Nam Chol, chief of Obstetric Department No. 1, and Jong Ji Suk, a doctor of the department.
Then they performed a surgery, pulling the patient out of critical state. But the patient was still in danger.
They carried out several rounds of hemodialysis and conducted her postdialysis nutritional management in a responsible manner. During the course of treatment, they stayed by her bedside.
Also other doctors and nurses of the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit and Obstetric Department No. 1 looked after the patient as they would do their own kith and kin.
Thanks to their devotion, the patient’s condition improved as the days went by.
The patient has no idea of how many consultations were held for her and what kinds of tonics had flowed into her body during the 30 days of treatment.
The only thing she knows is that she has many new family members.
Seeing the doctors who cared for her more than her parents, she felt once again the benevolence of the socialist system which values human beings more than anything else.
On the day of her discharge, she made a deep bow of gratitude before the hospital.
