Last year dynamic efforts were made across the country to upgrade the educational conditions and environment.
According to information available, over 340 schools, 780 branch schools and 150 kindergartens were newly built or renovated around the country, on a par with role models, by late November last year after the Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
The multifunctional classrooms increased by a good 2 000 more than planned, and over 180 branch schools gained access to the national network, making it possible to upgrade the quality of education.
Ministries and national agencies rendered great assistance to the educational sector.
The National Design Administration reviewed the designs for modernization projects for at least 1 200 educational institutions at all levels in a short span of time so that the relevant units started the projects in time.
By finishing the review of the designs for more than 1 300 projects, it enabled the general education sector to push forward the modernization projects from the beginning of this year.
The Ministry of IT Industry helped 180 branch schools have access to the national network by providing them with optical fibre cables running nearly 1 000 kilometres and hundreds of integrated joints.
Every province, city and county worked towards cementing their material and technical foundations for education.
Pyongyang Municipality built Songga Senior Middle School in Kangdong County as a model and facelifted scores of institutions.
North Phyongan Province newly built or remodelled over 110 institutions and helped more than 500 rural schools renovate their foundations for experiments and practice.
North Hamgyong Province, which attained the modernization target by October 10 last year, completed the reconstruction of Chongjin O Jung Hup University of Education and facelifted the provincial teachers’ training centre and district- and county-level teachers’ in-service training schools, creating a national role model.
North Hwanghae Province completed a total of 200 projects and Ryanggang Province turned over 700 classrooms at primary and secondary schools into multifunctional ones.
