The Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea referred to the educational work as the most important state affair, to which top priority should be given and paramount efforts directed in any periods and stages, and as the most vital sector which should make incessant progress.
Now positive efforts are being made in the education sector to bring about a substantial improvement in education this year.
Institutions of higher education are pushing ahead with preparations for meticulously carrying out the new teaching programme geared to specialized education on subjects and for turning to research-oriented teaching and learning methods from the new school year.
Teachers training colleges and major universities are to introduce a new teaching management system while stepping up the informatization and modernization of education and focusing on experiment, practical education and education on programming.
The provincial colleges of technology and agricultural science and vocational colleges work to make the teaching contents more specific, diverse and practical in such fields as light industry, foodstuff industry, machinery and fishery to meet their regional features.
The general educational institutions try to make a shift to a teaching mode oriented to heuristic approach, quest and discussion with an eye to helping students play an active role in learning.
Efforts are made to enhance the quality of basic education by widely introducing the educational science achievements made last year in strengthening the experiment- and practice-oriented education.
To this end, the central teaching training centre conducted a training course in January with the theme of “Some problems arising in improving teaching contents and methods to steadily develop the students’ intelligence by enhancing the quality of basic education.”
Besides, reference books, multimedia, up-to-date data related to education and videos of excellent lectures are distributed to educational units at all levels.
Efforts are directed to training more competent teachers and building up the ranks of teachers, increasing the number of teachers who hold academic degrees and titles and possess abilities to speak different foreign languages and improving the qualifications of teachers so that they can guide more than one hobby group in extracurricular activities.
Meanwhile, the climate of supporting education is growing among citizens.
