Ri Song Chol, leader of Workteam No. 3 of the Sukchon County Township Farm in South Phyongan Province, has built his reputation by producing high crop yields year after year.
It has been nearly two decades since he started his career at the workteam.
“Our parents were also farmers. Following in their footsteps, I have been growing crops on my native land after graduating from the Sukchon College of Agriculture and serving in the army,” said Ri Song Chol.
After being appointed the chief of the workteam several years ago, he began to focus on scientific farming and wider use of machinery.
In particular, he worked towards running the sci-tech learning space effectively so as to help farmers acquire advanced farming methods and techniques. And he enlisted technicians in the workteam to make some pieces of machinery to be needed for farming.
They manufactured a deep layer fertilizer planter to save manpower and enhance work efficiency, and remade tractor ploughs in such a way as to cut oil consumption and raise working rate. Their achievements include the remodelling of a one-ton thresher into a 1.5-ton one and the production of efficacious substitute fertilizer which helped improve the growth of crops and boost per-hectare yield.
He gave renewed impetus to animal husbandry, producing lots of manure and considerably improving soil fertility. Meanwhile, he directed attention to facelifting the workteam and promoting harmony and unity among teammates.
In recent years his workteam has overfulfilled its yearly quota of national grain production plan.
