It has not been so long since a housewives’ workteam was formed in the Pyongyang Bag Factory.
But the workteam presented some articles to the national August 3 consumer goods exhibition held last year, attracting the attention of the jury and visitors.
“The mission of our workteam is to smooth the satchel strap adjusters to be supplied every year to other satchel factories across the country. So I often visited the factory. One day the cloth scraps coming from production processes drew my attention,” said Nam Yong Hye who is in charge of the workteam.
The members of the workteam also showed interest in the waste. They were all of the opinion that it can be recycled. So they began to collect the scraps.
Some of them were adept at presenting novel ideas and making good designs while others were highly skilled in cutting cloth and handling sewing machine.
At first they decided to make bags for ladies. They pooled wisdom to choose appropriate types and colours.
After painstaking efforts they produced nice bags with side pockets and a harmonious combination of different colours, which became an instant hit.
Inspired by the good response from customers, they set about making various types of bags that can be used according to seasonal change through a deep study of different tastes, ages, jobs and hobbies of women.
They found that even though they are of the same type, women’s bags looked different according to how different colours are combined.
Finally they turned out quality winter bags, handbags, tote bags, satchels, shoulder bags, children’s bags, computer bags and pouches for cosmetics and mobile phones, all in a crisscross pattern.
As many as 480 items of 26 kinds were on display at last year’s exhibition. The products from the workteam enjoy popularity among customers for their unique types and beautiful colour combination.
