In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea legal foundation for guaranteeing the educational development is being consolidated under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .

Kim Jong Un saw to it that the Sixth Session of the 12th Supreme People’s Assembly in September 2012 proclaimed the law on enforcing universal 12-year compulsory education, thereby providing a solid institutional guarantee for training younger generations to be dependable future pillars of the Juche revolution possessed of ennobling spirit and profound knowledge.

As a result, in 2017 marking the 40th anniversary of the publication of the immortal classic work “Theses on Socialist Education” by President Kim Il Sung , the universal 12-year compulsory education came into force across the country from the new school year. This marked a significant occasion in bringing about a revolution in education in the new century.

Under the wise leadership of the WPK the laws for further developing the socialist education institutionally and legally have been newly enacted, amended or supplemented.

Among them are the law on general education that specifies the issues arising in strengthening general education including the new definition of the age for compulsory secondary general education and improvement of educational administration and environment, the law on higher education that further details the tasks of the central education guidance organ, local power organs and relevant institutions in implementing the higher education policy and the laws on prodigy education, online education and vocational education for thoroughly carrying out the prodigy education policy of the state and firmly guaranteeing the policy of making all the people well-versed in science and technology and of developing the country into a talent power.

Other laws on teacher, educational programme execution and support of education that deal with the issue of respecting teachers and giving them preferential treatment, legal demands arising in the formulation, approval and implementation of educational programmes and the issue of motivating all citizens to regard the support of education as their sacred civic duty and turn out in that effort.

The law of the DPRK on education that stipulates the principles and demands arising in consolidating the socialist education system and strengthening the education is contributing to further developing the socialist education and training the talents with the independent ideological consciousness and creative ability.

At the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un referred to the education as the most important state affair, to which top priority should be given and paramount efforts directed in any period and at any stage, and as the most vital sector which should make incessant progress. And he set forth again the tasks for raising the foundation of the country’s education onto a new higher level within the earliest possible period.

With the provision of the legal foundation for reliably guaranteeing the development of country’s education, the education in the DPRK is developing day by day as the most advantageous and ideal one to which we can readily entrust our future.
