Efforts are directed to developing physical acrobatics in the DPRK.
In recent years, Korean physical stunts have won a variety of prizes such as Idol gold prize, gold lion prize and gold elephant prize at over 20 circus festivals held in Europe and Asia. This year alone, they have been awarded top prizes at three international events.
The physical acrobatics “Acrobats on swings, teeterboard and horizontal bars” garnered the Grand Prix at the Fourth International Festival of Circus Art “Without Borders” held in Russia in September. The acrobats performed movements of high degrees of difficulty, arousing the admiration of participants and spectators.
Gold lion prize and silver lion prize were awarded to physical stunts “Fly higher” and “Tight-wire walking” respectively at the 20th Wuqiao International Circus Festival.
The jury of the festival and spectators said in unison that they could see the ever-developing aspect of the Korean acrobatics.
A jury who had reviewed Korean acrobatic pieces several times in the past said that the acrobatic pieces made up of new elements of interpretation marked the climax of the current festival, that the Korean acrobatics are imposing and thrilling, and that he saw genuine acrobatics.
Such movements as backward quadruple somersaults, backward somersault and quadruple side turns, blindfolded backward quadruple somersaults and quintuple somersaults are some of the most recognized Korean stunts in the world.
Today the Korean acrobats are working to open up new horizons for further development.
