Last year Korean athletes brought home many gold medals from international competitions, adding lustre to the dignity and honour of their country.
They won 20-odd trophies and more than 270 medals including over 150 gold medals, and set more than 10 new world records.
Women footballers cruised to victory at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, becoming the single team to win the tournament twice in a row and the first to lift the World Cup four times.
Weightlifters garnered 23 medals, 17 golds among them, at the 2025 IWF World Championships and set 10 world records, ranking first respectively in the men’s and women’s country and region standings. Furthermore, women weightlifters renewed nine world records out of 12, topping the country rankings of world records.
Korean athletes snatched 23 medals, 13 golds and 10 silvers, at the first CISM World Military Weightlifting Championships, ranking first in country standings and winning a team trophy.
Wrestlers claimed ten gold, six silver and nine bronze medals, 25 in total, and two trophies at international competitions such as the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in September last year.
Taekwon-Do practitioners won eight gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the adult pattern and sparring events at the Second Asian Karate Championships and Cup held in April, and they garnered 46 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze medals, six individual technical prizes and a team trophy at the 23rd ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships held in October, topping the country rankings.
In addition, many athletes acquitted themselves well in boxing, track and field, shooting, acrobatic gymnastics and other events at international competitions.
