The history of the Korean revolution records an event that the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland was founded.
Nearly 90 years have passed, but the great significance and meaning of its founding are further highlighted with the passage of time.
In the mid-1930s when President Kim Il Sung was leading the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, the situation urgently required that the anti-Japanese national united front movement should be developed onto a new stage.
With a deep insight into it, Kim Il Sung put forward a line of forming a permanent united front organization and expanding and developing the anti-Japanese national united front movement at the historic Nanhutou meeting, and energetically made preparations to this end.
He personally worked out the programme, rules and inaugural declaration of the ARF under the difficult conditions of arduous marches and fierce battles. He convened a meeting of military and political cadres of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army in Donggang, Fusong County of China early in May Juche 25 (1936), and declared to the whole world the founding of the ARF as a permanent anti-Japanese national united front body and a powerful underground revolutionary organization.
At the meeting he clarified the significance of the formation of the ARF and its character, and the main contents of its programme, and set forth the tasks for rallying the Korean people into a political force under the banner of national liberation.
The Ten-Point Programme of the ARF, its Rules and its Inaugural Declaration were made public at the meeting.
The participants in the meeting fully supported the appeal of Kim Il Sung that the Japanese imperialists would surely be destroyed and Korea’s independence would succeed if the whole nation were rallied into one, each contributing his or her all; money, provisions, skill and wisdom; and took part in the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle.
The meeting elected Kim Il Sung chairman of the ARF.
Under his energetic guidance, the ARF closely united the Koreans of all social standings with different class positions and political views into one force based on common interests and inspired them to actively turn out in the struggle for liberating their country.
The tradition of great unity achieved by Kim Il Sung during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle has fully proved successful in the annals of the Korean revolution and is still being carried forward successfully.
