May 5 is International Day of the Midwife.
On the occasion of the day every year, the International Confederation of Midwives sets a relevant theme of the year aimed at giving social prominence to midwives and improving medical services for maternity women and newborns through their positive activities.
The theme for this year is “Midwives: a vital climate solution.”
Unexpected climate change caused by global warming exerts considerable influence on human beings.
When the aftereffects of COVID-19, which swept the world, still linger, epidemics breaking out in different parts of the world pose a serious threaten to the lives of maternity women and newborns.
Now hundreds of thousands of pregnant women and millions of newborns are dying around the world as they failed to get assistance in childbirth by skilled midwives. So, the United Nations Population Fund and the World Health Organization emphasize that at least four and at most eight rounds of antenatal check-ups and birth attendance by professional health workers should be provided to all maternity mothers and newborns to protect their health.
It is said that prioritizing midwives and investing in them is an effective way for protecting the lives and health of women and newborns, which will lead to bringing happiness to all families.
In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea which treasures human beings most, healthy babies are born every year thanks to the protection and benefits of the state and society, and even maternity women at the crossroads of life and death enjoy the pleasure of resuscitation.
In our country, normal pregnant women receive antenatal care six times and postnatal care five times, 11 in all, and other pregnant women at high risk deliver their babies safely while receiving antenatal care regardless of the frequency.
In particular, midwives in charge of the antenatal, delivery and postnatal care guarantee the lives of maternity women and newborns with safer and more scientific care in a clean health and hygienic environment.
Midwives in our country perform their duty, keeping in their mind the great honour and pride of being medical workers responsible for the health of maternity women and newborns.
