The birth of a newborn needs the help of midwives.
Choe Kyong Hwa at obstetrical department No. 5 at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has been working as a chief midwife for 26 years after graduating from Pyongyang College of Medical Sciences. Over the years she has assisted many pregnant women and attended thousands of births.
She says she feels the joy and pride of her job, which no one can take, whenever she hears the first cry of a newborn.
Her duty, ranging from publicity of female health and observation of pregnant women in labour to birth attendance was not all easy, but she has devoted heart and soul into the work.
She actively applied psychoprophylaxis to help pregnant women have confidence in their childbirth and have an easy delivery. She also miraculously saved many cases and babies from the jaws of death.
Not only nursing mothers but also her colleagues lavish unstinted praise on her for her sincere devotion and high sense of responsibility.
“I think my job is well worth doing as it brings happiness to the families of patients by helping them in childbirth. I will take better care of them as their own mothers and sisters would do,” said Choe.
