Established in October 2004, the Wonsan Investment and Development Trading Company is engaged in attracting investment to help implement the government policy geared to developing the Wonsan-Mt Kumgang area into an international tourist zone.

The Wonsan-Mt Kumgang international tourist zone comprises the Wonsan area, including Wonsan City, Poptong, Anbyon, Thongchon, Kosong and Kumgang counties of Kangwon Province, the Masikryong Ski Resort area, the Ullim Falls area, the Sogwang Temple area, the Thongchon area and the Mt Kumgang area.

It has many tourist resources such as well over a hundred historical relics, sand beaches and bathing resorts, natural lakes, hundreds of tourist attractions, mineral water and mud resources good for medical treatment.

The annual average temperature is 10.4°C, with a maximum temperature of 36°C and a minimum temperature of -14.6°C.

As a geographical centre of Northeast Asia, the zone is at the junction of railways and roads linking the East Sea of Korea and the West Sea of Korea.

The zone includes the Kalma International Airport, Wonsan Port, a smeltery, rolling stock enterprise and other industrial establishments in the fields of machinery, chemistry, daily necessities, textile, building materials and fishery.

There are also more than 10 universities, including Wonsan University of Agriculture, Wonsan Jong Jun Thaek University of Economics and Wonsan University of Fisheries.

The company specializes in inducing investment from at home and abroad for the development of the zone, and shipping trade for raising development funds, finishing building-materials production, operation of the Kalma Goods Exhibition Hall, various services at the bathing resort in Lake Sijung, and other export and import dealings.

The focus of its investment attraction is to introduce the government’s investment policy on the Wonsan-Mt Kumgang international tourist zone, and the company’s direction and plan for investment attraction, and to act as an agency to provide the interested enterprises, investors and personages with an opportunity to survey the zone and establish contact with local enterprises and companies.

The company invites businessmen, investors and others from various circles at home and abroad to hold promotional events, such as briefings on investment, exhibition, art performance and commodity exhibition, mainly at the Kalma Goods Exhibition Hall located in the middle of the Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist area, which has been developed into an international tourist resort.

It also organizes survey and investigation of various tourist attractions, including the Mt Kumgang and Masikryong Ski Resort areas in the zone.
