Mt Komun, a scenic spot famous for hot spring, is located in Sakju County, North Phyongan Province.
In the 1920s the locals marvelled at hot spring gushing out of the ground in the area and built an open-air bath. A spa was built in Juche 45 (1956).
The annual average temperature is about 7℃ with the average temperature in January of -11℃ and the average temperature in July of about 23℃.
The annual average precipitation is about 1 050mm.
The central part of the mountain consists of a mixed forest with 50 percent of oaks, 45 percent of pines and 5 percent of other trees.
It is inhabited by several species of animals such as raccoon dogs and roe deer.
Sakju hot spring is located 6 kilometres south of Sakju County township and 1 kilometre south of Phungnyon Station. It has a special virtue for treating various skin diseases and inflammation as the water is slightly alkaline with a high temperature of 59℃ and a gushing volume of 100㎥ per hour.
Here is cucumber tree community which is rare in the country. It dates back around 1930.
