The following is a story related with the Fifth National Conference of Mothers held in December last year.

One day in March that year the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un met senior officials of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and gave instructions on organizing the conference.

Hearing him, the officials were deeply moved by his intention. Looking back, he ensured that the Fourth National Conference of Mothers were held in 2012 to provide a significant occasion for bringing forward the dawn of a bright future of the country. Now, ten-odd years later, he was planning to organize such a conference again.

Looking round the officials, he said: The mother plays a very important role in a family, a cell of society; she gives birth to children and spares no pains looking after her husband and parents-in-law; she also devotes all her sincerity to bringing up her children into upright persons; a happy family, growth of its children and sound development of society are unthinkable apart from the role played by the mother.

As the officials were quite impressed by his remarks, he continued: No appellation is more sacred, kind and dear than the word mother; that’s why people regard the mother as the most sacred, righteous and powerful being and, when they talk about their native country, they call it motherland.

What he said represented his lofty intention to raise the position of mothers onto the highest level.

One day in October, several months later, he called an official of the WPK Central Committee and reiterated the need to make good preparations for the forthcoming conference and emphatically said that he attaches the greatest importance to the children’s union congress and the conference of mothers among all other meetings.

Under his great affection and benevolence, the grand Fifth National Conference of Mothers was held on December 3, 2023.

At the conference he delivered the opening speech in an affectionate and sonorous voice in which he said: This conference is a platform for paying boundless tribute to and congratulating the mothers in Korea. At it, the Party and state are crowning our patriotic and loyal mothers with the laurels of all the victories we have achieved on the onward march in the new era. It is also a political festival which demonstrates once again the justice and promising future of our cause, in which the coming generations who represent the future of our country, along with the mothers, are revered and placed at the forefront in every consideration.

His speech touched the heartstrings of all the mothers, nay all the people, in the country and explained the reason why the DPRK is so powerful.
