Recently the modern Pyongyang General Hospital has been built in the capital city of Pyongyang as a symbol of socialist public health, and regional hospitals are under construction in Kangdong County, Ryonggang County of Nampho Municipality and Kusong City of North Phyongan Province.
It is the intention of the Workers’ Party of Korea to build these three hospitals as model facilities and accumulate experience this year and then, starting next year, to set up hospitals in 20 cities and counties simultaneously, one in each region, on an annual basis.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of a hospital and a leisure complex in Kangdong County in February, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that to put the reconstruction of hospitals in cities and counties in parallel with the construction of the general hospital in the capital city is just the road to the fastest development based on the advantages of our system.
Healthcare in the DPRK is part of the integral whole of the state and social policies to protect and promote people’s lives and health so that they can lead an independent and creative life.
Regarding it as the most important mission of the state to promote the people’s health and protect their lives and safety, the DPRK has institutionally guaranteed and enforced the most people-oriented public health policy. Recently, it has been strenuously pushing ahead with the reconstruction of regional hospitals on a modern basis in all its cities and counties.
Several months ago Kim Jong Un stressed that to develop the overall public health of the country on the basis of the completion of the Pyongyang General Hospital as a model medical centre is an important revolutionary undertaking to defend and develop the advantages and original feature of Korean-style socialism centred on the masses, setting forth important tasks arising in building modern new hospitals that will appear not only in Pyongyang but also in cities and counties across the country in the future.
Thanks to the wise leadership of the WPK to step up the construction of regional hospitals with this year set as the first year of the public health revolution, the country’s healthcare is smoothly and steadily moving forward along the road to the fastest development based on the advantages of its socialist system.
