Kwimyon Rock stands near Samson Rock and Tokson Rock in the Manmulsang section in Outer Kumgang, part of Mt Kumgang, a celebrated mountain in Korea.
The oddly-shaped stone perches on the top of a stone column, making the viewers feel as if it would fall down at any moment.
It is said that the local people called it so as the rock column and the stone on it inspired awe reminding them of the face of a ghost. The rock took up the current appearance as it had been weathered and eroded for centuries.
Azalea and other plants grow in the crevices of the rock. They produce flowers in spring and turn red and yellow in autumn, adding more beauty to the surrounding scenery.
The rock was formed as its granite layers were weathered and broken along a columnar jointing. It is a natural monument of great academic significance.
