According to the plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea to turn all rural villages across the country into those that preserve the features of socialism and relevant regional characteristics, new rural villages are under construction in a hundred and scores of cities, counties and districts.
In October 2024 when the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un inspected a reconstruction site in flood-stricken Jagang Province, he said that the regional dwelling houses should be built in a varied way and, for example, they should be done to preserve regional features so that when you visit Jagang Province you can notice and tell them.
Later he made sure that hundreds of pieces of latest architectural designs were provided to the design sector of rural houses to help it make big strides with creation and innovation in keeping with the global trend.
True to his instructions, the designers made efforts to work out modern layouts of diverse styles and regional features in such a way as to serve as new models of Korean-style rural civilization.
They visited the regions in which rural villages are set to be built this year to get opinions of local residents on new houses and have a better understanding of regional features and other aspects. In full consideration of these they designed single- and low-storey houses to preserve the regional features and provide the locals with every convenience in their living. They also paid attention to ensuring diversity in design of houses even in the same village.
According to these designs, tens of thousands of houses as well as public and production buildings are being built across the country.
The central headquarters for rural construction set the Chilgol Vegetable Farm in Pyongyang’s Mangyongdae District as a model unit for rural housing and the Unpha County of North Hwanghae Province as a model unit for public and production buildings, and saw to it that relevant regions ensure the quality of construction and the builders introduce advanced construction methods and equipment.
Thus the rural villages are turning into ideal places which preserve regional features and which are civilized and developed.
