It was reported that the First Session of the Tenth Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was to be held early in September 1998.
The world’s attention was directed to the DPRK with expectations that a new state leadership would be elected, and that Chairman Kim Jong Il would be undoubtedly elected President of the DPRK.
However, such expectations proved to be wrong.
It was announced that at the session the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung was held in high esteem as the eternal President of the DPRK.
Upon the news, the world people were struck with admiration for the noble moral obligation of Kim Jong Il to Kim Il Sung , founding father of socialist Korea.
In July 1994, immediately after the demise of Kim Il Sung , Chairman Kim Jong Il stated it was his steadfast determination that although he passed away, we should hold him, who performed distinguished services to our country and people, to the world and mankind, and enjoyed the highest respect and reverence, in high esteem as our one and only President, as the first and eternal President in the history of our country.
And he went on to say: We must ensure that “President Kim Il Sung ”, a title familiar and dear to the whole of humanity, should be eternally etched in the annals of the history of the country and that when it comes to the President, the younger generations also should be made feel proud of him and revere him alone as the President; from this stand and attitude, I have decided to make him held in high esteem forever, just as he was when he was alive, and to let him go down in history as the one and only President in the country’s history.
This is how the Korean people came to revere Kim Il Sung as the eternal President of the DPRK.
