It has been several years since the Yangdok Hot Spring Resort was open to public. Today, its surrounding mountains are thick with ever-green forests.
They are associated with the devotion and painstaking efforts of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un for the people’s happiness.
In August 2018 when he paid his first visit to the place, he stressed the need to channel efforts into creating forests on surrounding mountains.
He visited the place again just before the development project started in October that year. Indicating pine-nut and pine forests on the mountain behind the construction site, he said it is necessary to shape the landscape well while developing the area, to design afforestation for recuperation and recreation districts in a meticulous way, to plant good species of trees near the road and on surrounding mountains in large quantities and to plant trees in an intensive manner till the next spring.
He added that it is needed to plant trees in good combination by age, and create mixed forests of ever-green trees including pine and pine-nut trees and trees that meet the topographical conditions of the area and grow fast.
Looking round wells, he pointed to the mountains far ahead and said to an accompanying official repeatedly that it is needed to plant many trees on those mountains while landscaping the area.
And he took measures to provide tree saplings, noting that tree planting should be finished by April the following year in order to complete it together with construction.
Afterwards, an afforestation campaign was launched simultaneously with the construction effort.
When he visited the construction site in April next year, he highly appreciated that hundreds of thousands of trees were planted in four months and said that it would be spectacular ten years later when those trees would grow up.
He visited again the construction site in October 2019 when the project was proceeding at the final stage. On the observation platform he feasted his eyes on a panoramic view of the architectural group. Indicating ridges between ski slopes, he pointed to the need to cover the nearby mountains with thick forests in a few years to come by mapping out an afforestation plan in a far-sighted manner and implementing it perseveringly.
The hot spring resort in Yangdok County is a gift our Party presents to the people, and you need to set out higher requirements and build it to be flawless, he noted.
The green forests around the resort which give fresh fragrance to the visitors were unfolded in this way.
