In late August 2016 torrential rain hit the northern part of the DPRK, inflicting serious damages on some cities and counties.
One day the following month a group of members of an international organization visited the flood-stricken areas in North Hamgyong Province to see the flood victims. A girl was among the people they met.
The flood reportedly washed away her house and everything in it, leaving her family homeless. But the visitors found no sign of fear, discouragement or despair on her face.
In a way, they were so curious about the situation that they asked her some questions.
To a question as to how she was going to get along in the future, she said: I don’t worry. The respected fatherly Marshal Kim Jong Un will give us new houses. We will also be provided with shoes.
To another question about what she wanted to be in the future when she grew up, she said that she would be a soldier of the Korean People’s Army to defend her country.
Their visit was paid before the WPK Central Committee made public an appeal on directing the main thrust of the country’s efforts towards the rehabilitation work in the flood-stricken areas in the northern part and concentrating all efforts on the rehabilitation project and no one could expect what kinds of measures the country would take as regards the disaster.
However, the young girl cherished deep trust in the socialist system and the confidence and optimism that as long as her country was led by Kim Jong Un , any sort of misfortune will be cleared away and happiness will come.
As if proving her answer was right, the traces of the damages were completely gone and smart and peculiarly designed low- and single-storey houses and public buildings were built in the flood-hit area in a matter of 60-odd days.
