Modern houses are springing up in different parts of the country—coastal, lowland and mountainous areas—to meet the regional and geological features according to the plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea for regional and rural rejuvenation and development. The boom in the housing construction leads to the development and production of a wide variety of building materials.

This is evidenced by the annual national exhibition of sci-tech achievements in the field of furniture and finishing materials.

The national exhibition of sci-tech achievements in the field of furniture and finishing materials-2025 held in August at the Sci-Tech Complex brought together more than 330 units from across the country. On display there were hundreds of kinds of more than 3 600 pieces of multi-purpose and functional furniture, finishing materials, architectural lights and decorative illuminations.

Meanwhile, exhibitions of finishing materials for rural construction took place in various parts of the country, presenting goods unique to the relevant regions.

The exhibitions showed that an increasing number of units are striving hard to develop quality finishing materials by establishing sound production foundations and tapping a raft of raw materials like building stones, ceramic materials and timber abundant in their regions.

A unit from the city of Tokchon of South Phyongan Province obtained a national invention certificate for developing an inorganic foam lagging material that reduces the heat loss in public buildings and dwelling houses and arrests noise, and a unit from the city of Anju of the same province produces prefabricated lagging bricks, and blocks that can be made using no sand and saving cement a lot.

Chongdan County of South Hwanghae Province has developed and produced a coloured mortar whose colour is preserved even after a long time.

Hongwon County of South Hamgyong Province built new lines of producing light burned magnesia fittings and furniture including doors and coloured coating materials for the exterior of buildings and increased the production capacity of its ironware factory by 1.5 times. In this way the county laid the foundations to turn out tens of thousands of finishing materials of scores of kinds on its own, making it possible to meet almost half of the local demand.

The workers across the country are making efforts to diversify tiles, glass, metallic and plastic building materials, lagging materials, coating materials for the exterior of buildings, water-proof materials, wall panels and other finishing materials in terms of kind, shape and colour.
