Every region of the DPRK has rich potentials and possibilities for achieving unique development by sustaining its peculiar features.
This is evidenced by the fact that the modern regional-industry factories newly built in 20 cities and counties of the country are producing their specialities with raw materials and resources available in their regions.
The Songchon County Foodstuff Factory in South Phyongan Province produces jam and jelly with the famous Songchon chestnut as their raw materials, whereas the foodstuff factory in Kosan County of Kangwon Province, a region noted for fruit cultivation, turns out bottled hard-boild apples and pears. And the foodstuff factories in the mountainous Kim Hyong Jik County in Ryanggang Province and Tongsin County in Jagang Province manufacture tasty and nutritious beverages with wild pear, fruit of tara vine, wild grapes and fruit of mulberry.
Foodstuff factories and seafood processing factories in South Hamgyong Province adjoining the east coast of Korea and South Phyongan Province and Nampho Municipality bordering the west coast of Korea churn out various kinds of products made with pollack, cod, hard-finned sandfish, flatfish and shellfish.
According to data available, the variety of consumer goods produced at the regional-industry factories in the 20 cities and counties has increased by well over a hundred as compared with the time of their inauguration.
These products were presented at the national commodity goods shows held this year.
Put on display at the 16th Pyongyang Department Store No. 1 Commodity Exhibition were more than 1 275 000 pieces of goods of more than 1 700 kinds produced by over 400 units. And over 800 000 pieces of goods of 1 600-odd kinds produced by well over a hundred units were presented to the 2025 Spring Commodity Exhibition at Pyongyang Underground Shop.
Various kinds of goods including edible herbs, seafood, processed mushrooms and ceramics produced by provinces, cities and counties using locally-available raw materials and economic resources were highly commented by the customers.
As the variety of products expands, the average rate of production growth of the regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties is on the increase.
